Olivia Anastasio was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She traveled to Worcester, MA to earn her Bachelor's in Environmental Conservation & Biology from Clark University in 2019. She then completed her Master's in 2020 with Kate Mathis at Clark University studying the spatial distribution of Argentine ants. During her Master's, Olivia worked as a Biostatistics TA and as a mentor with the Summer Bridge to Research (SBTR) program at the University of California, Riverside. Olivia has previously worked at Barnard as a Laboratory Technician in the Pischedda Lab. Her research interests include insect ecology, agroecology, evolution, and animal behavior.
Despite the drastic changes to how research in Altschul has been conducted since last June, our laboratory technicians have been hard at work throughout the pandemic to help sustain productivity in our faculty labs alongside their PIs. Today, Olivia Anastasio, Lena Kogan (BC '19), Abby Ryckman (BC '18), and Nicole Rondeau (BC '18) join us to discuss what drives them as scientists and who they are outside of Altschul.
