In order to take any research-based course, a Project Approval Form must be submitted to the Department Administrator, Melissa Flores (mflores@barnard.edu), by 5 pm on September 20th via Google Forms*. Students must enroll in their internal advisor's section after contacting them and confirming that the advisor is taking on Guided Research students. ¹MATLAB for Scientists can count either as an upper-level lab for the GB, C&M, P&O, and E&E tracks, or as an upper-level elective in the C&M, P&O, E&E, and CB-COMP categories, but cannot fulfill a breadth requirement.

²BIOL BC3305–BC3306 is a full-year course and counts as two upper-level labs for the major. Enrollment in BC3306 is required in spring 2022.

³BIOL BC3591–BC3592 & BIOL BC3593-BC3594 are full year courses and can only be taken in a fall to spring sequence. Enrollment in BC3592 or BC3594 is required in spring 2022.

⁴Science Journal Club enrollment is only open to students in the Science Pathways Scholars Program.

However, students enrolled in the year-long courses do not need to resubmit this form since the assumption is that they are working on the same project for the duration of the year. Students must enroll in their internal advisor's section after contacting them and confirming that the advisor is taking on Guided Research students. ¹BIOL BC3305–BC3306 is a full-year course and counts as two upper-level labs for the major. Enrollment in BC3305 was required in fall 2021 in order to enroll in this course.

²BIOL BC3308 Genomics and Bioinformatics was renamed as BIOL BC3308 Introduction to Microbial Genomics as of Spring 2021

³BIOL BC3591–BC3592 & BIOL BC3593-BC3594 are full year courses and can only be taken in a fall to spring sequence. Enrollment in BC3591 or BC3593 were required in fall 2021 in order to enroll in these courses.

Ahead of fall 2021 course registration, we hosted Program Planning on March 9th at 10:00 am ET. We also held a Q&A session introducing the new Computational Biology track on Friday, April 2nd at 11:00 am ET. Both events were recorded and program planning packets in addition to interactive powerpoints to help guide you through the various major tracks are available on our Major Advising page.
